Botanical Garden with 108 hectares of subtropical flora, Old Town with Ottoman architecture, Italian-style Piazza Square, 7 km Boulevard along the Black Sea, and the Ali & Nino sculpture — all in one full day from Tbilisi with English-speaking guide Timur.
Batumi is a city of contrasts on the Black Sea coast, where subtropical palms stand next to ultramodern skyscrapers, and Ottoman alleys give way to Italian-style piazzas. It's Georgia's second-largest city and the capital of Adjara — an autonomous republic with its own culture, cuisine, and character. In one packed day, we'll show you the best Batumi has to offer.
We leave early — at 07:00 — to reach the first stop by noon. The 5-hour drive from Tbilisi takes you through western Georgia past green valleys, tea plantations, and tangerine groves. Along the way, your guide will share the history of Adjara — a region that was part of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman empires, and how that shaped its unique culture.
The first stop is Batumi Botanical Garden, one of the largest in the world. 108 hectares of subtropical flora divided into nine geographical zones — from a Japanese garden to Mexican cacti. The garden sits on hills above the sea, and the upper terraces offer a stunning Black Sea panorama. Over 5,000 plant species grow here, including relict trees, bamboo groves, eucalyptus, and magnolias.
After the garden — Batumi Old Town. Europe Square with its astronomical clock and fountain, cobblestone streets with Ottoman balconies, Orta Jame Mosque — the only functioning mosque in the city. Then Piazza Square — the Italian quarter modeled after Venice's St. Mark's Square, with mosaic walls, arches, open-air cafes, and live musicians. The day wraps up with a walk along the 7 km Batumi Boulevard — palm-lined alleys, fountains, the 130-metre Alphabetic Tower, and the famous Ali & Nino sculpture. Free time at the beach to swim in the Black Sea (in summer), dinner with a sunset view, and the return drive to Tbilisi by 22:00–23:00.
"Batumi with Timur was incredible! We didn't believe you could see so much in one day. The Botanical Garden blew us away with its scale, and Piazza felt like a slice of Italy. Timur knows the best photo spots and shared fascinating stories about Adjara's history. The Adjarian khachapuri at the seaside restaurant was the best we'd tried. Absolutely recommend!"
"Batumi in one day seemed impossible, but Timur planned everything perfectly. We managed the Botanical Garden with its incredible sea views, the Old Town, the Boulevard, and even a swim. The long drive flew by in the comfortable AC car. We came back to Tbilisi tired but absolutely happy. This is a must-do tour!"
"We went with two kids (6 and 9) and worried about the long drive. No need! Timur told the kids legends about Adjara, stopped for snacks, and in Batumi the kids were thrilled by the sea and the garden. The Ali & Nino sculpture mesmerised them completely. An excellent family tour, every detail thought through."
