Who is Timur and why choose a Sakhva Travel private guide?

Hi! I'm Timur, a private guide in Tbilisi. Over the years I've led more than 500 tours for travellers from all over the world. My approach is simple: no cookie-cutter itineraries — just the stories that live in every corner of Georgia.

When tourists come to me looking for a private guide in Tbilisi, I offer more than a walk around the city. I offer immersion into Georgian culture. I know places you won't find in any guidebook — tiny cafés that serve the most authentic khachapuri, hidden wine cellars beneath the Old Town, viewpoints without a single tourist in sight.

Over the years I've built an enormous library of routes and can adapt any tour to your interests. History buff? I'll show you archaeological discoveries. Foodie? Let's do a gastro tour. Photographer? I'll find the perfect light at sunset.

How much does a private guide in Tbilisi cost in 2026?

Here is the honest price list:

  • Individual tour (2–4 hours): from ₾135 (approx. €45)
  • Full-day tour (8 hours): from ₾380
  • Old Town walk (3 hours): from ₾125
  • Kakheti wine region trip (12 hours): from ₾175 per day (transport included)
  • Night Tbilisi (3 hours): from ₾155

Why these prices? Because I don't work through travel agencies and don't pay any commission to middlemen. You pay directly for quality and personal experience. The price includes: a tour in English, mobile Wi-Fi in the car, restaurant recommendations, and at least two photography stops.

Groups of 5 or more receive a 15% discount. Families with children get a special child-friendly route with a 20% discount.

What is included in the tour price?

When you book a private guide with me, you're not only paying for my time. Here is the full package:

  • Personalised itinerary: I build it the day before, taking weather and your wishes into account
  • Comfortable transport: Toyota Prius 2024 with air conditioning and phone charging
  • Tourist insurance: you are covered as a passenger under my policy
  • Local stories: not dry facts copied from the internet, but accounts from someone who actually lives in the city
  • Flexible schedule: want to stay longer at a particular spot? No problem
  • Photography help: I'll suggest the best angles and help organise group shots

After the tour I'll send you a detailed description of the route and tips about every place we visited. Particularly useful if you'd like to return on your own.

Tour routes offered by the private guide

Over the years I've developed several signature routes that have become very popular:

"Tbilisi in 4 Hours" (₾130 / approx. €45) — ideal for transit travellers. We cover Metekhi, Narikala fortress, the sulphur baths, Sioni Cathedral, and the artists' quarter of Abanotubani. I choose the best timing to avoid the crowds.

"Tasty Tbilisi" (₾90) — a gastro tour visiting 4 local restaurants and a wine cellar. You'll taste Imereti khachapuri, pkhali, lobiani, and natural Georgian wine. A brief interview with the restaurant chef is included as a bonus.

"Kakheti: The Wine Road" (from ₾120) — we leave Tbilisi for the wine villages. We visit traditional wineries where wine is still made in qvevri (ancient Georgian clay vessels). Lunch with the hosts is included. More details about the region: Kazbegi Day Trip from Tbilisi.

"Romantic Tbilisi" (₾110 per couple) — sunset on the Metekhi terrace, dinner at a restaurant overlooking Narikala, a walk through the city at night. I join you before dinner and leave after the first course.

Every route can be adapted to your fitness level and interests.

Why is a private guide cheaper than Tripster or GetYourGuide?

Many travellers compare private guide prices with platforms like Tripster, Sputnik8, or GetYourGuide. Here is an honest comparison as of April 2026:

TourAggregator priceSakhva TravelDifference
Kazbegi, 1 dayfrom ₾280–350from ₾175−15–30%
Kakheti with tastingfrom ₾250–300from ₾170−22–35%
Old Tbilisifrom ₾170–280from ₾165−17–41%
Mtskhetafrom ₾120–180from ₾77−25–50%
Night Tbilisifrom ₾150–200from ₾94−27–45%

Why the gap? Aggregators charge the guide a 20–30% commission. The guide passes that cost on to you in the price. With me you book direct — no middlemen, no mark-up.

I consciously left the aggregators after my first year of working. When a platform takes 25% of the tour fee, a guide has two options: raise the price for the tourist, or cut quality. I chose a third path — work directly and put the difference back into the tour itself: a better car, a bottle of water for everyone, stops at small wineries that don't work with group tours.

Another advantage: on aggregators you never know exactly who your guide will be. It could be a trainee with three reviews. With me it's one guide (me), one quality standard, and 87 reviews averaging 4.9.

When is the best time to book a private guide in Tbilisi?

High season in Georgia runs May–October. During this period guides get booked up quickly, so it's worth reserving 7–10 days in advance. In low season (November–March) two to three days' notice is usually enough.

Best months for tours:

  • April–May: flowering gardens, comfortable temperatures of 18–24 °C, relatively few tourists
  • September–October: rtveli (grape harvest) season, warm evenings, golden autumn in Kakheti
  • June–August: hot (30–38 °C), but excellent for Kazbegi — it's much cooler in the mountains
  • December–February: fewer tourists, festive New Year's Tbilisi, ski resorts nearby

Tip: if you're planning Kazbegi in winter, the road can be closed due to snow. Check with me on the day before the tour for up-to-date conditions.

In my experience, the most satisfied travellers are those who come in late September. Golden autumn in Kakheti, warm evenings in Tbilisi, rtveli in full swing — and half the tourist numbers compared to summer. My September calendar fills up 80% earlier than July.

How to choose a private guide in Tbilisi: 5 criteria

The guide market in Tbilisi is growing, and not every offer is equal in quality. Here's what to look for:

  1. Read reviews, not descriptions. Fancy website copy doesn't equal a great tour. Look for specific reviews: "showed us a hidden courtyard on Betlemi Street" rather than just "everything was great".
  2. Ask about transport. "Transfer included" might mean a 20-person minibus. Clarify: what kind of car, how many passengers, is there air conditioning?
  3. Flexible itinerary. A good guide adapts the tour to you. If you're told "the route is fixed, no deviations possible" — that's a group tour disguised as a private one. See also: Private Guide vs Group Tour in Tbilisi — Honest Comparison.
  4. Prepayment. Aggregators typically charge 100% upfront. A private guide usually requires no prepayment or a small deposit. With me — you pay after the tour.
  5. Language. Make sure the guide genuinely speaks your language. Ask for a voice message on WhatsApp before booking. I'm fluent in English and Georgian — this helps not only during tours but when dealing with locals: arranging a tasting at a small marani, asking directions from a shepherd in the mountains, ordering an off-menu dish at a restaurant.

How to book a private guide in Tbilisi

The booking process is simple and transparent:

  1. Write to me: via WhatsApp, Telegram, or the contact form on the Sakhva Travel website. Include your dates, number of people, and the places you're interested in.
  2. I send a confirmation: with the itinerary, the exact price, and details of where to meet.
  3. Payment: 30% upfront to secure the date and the car, the remainder on the day of the tour. I accept Wise, PayPal, cards, and cash.
  4. The day before: I'll call to confirm details, check the weather forecast, and advise on what to wear.
  5. Meeting: I'll pick you up at your hotel or an agreed spot. No delays — I always arrive on time.

Cancellations are accepted with no charge up to 48 hours before the tour. If I have to cancel due to illness or force majeure, I refund the full amount plus a 10% inconvenience compensation.

I recommend booking 5–7 days before you arrive, but I also accept last-minute requests on the day of arrival.
