Why Choose the Night Tour

Tbilisi at night is a different city — and that difference is worth an entire evening. Narikala Fortress glows from within, the Peace Bridge pulses with 30,000 LED lights, and the sulfur bath domes of Abanotubani radiate warm steam against the dark sky. By 20:00 the daytime crowds have gone and the temperature drops 5–7°C — in summer that is a genuine relief. Restaurants open their terraces with live music, wine bars fill up with locals, and the whole old town takes on an atmosphere that no daytime visit can replicate. The route passes through 7 viewpoints, each with a unique angle on the illuminated city.

Why Guests Choose the Night Tour

The night tour is consistently the top-rated experience we offer. Guests who have already seen Tbilisi by day return specifically for the evening atmosphere. The illuminated Narikala Fortress, the shimmering Peace Bridge, the steaming sulfur baths of Abanotubani in warm light — none of these have the same impact in daylight. Evening also means fewer crowds, cooler air in summer, and the city's famous wine bar culture fully in swing. Every stop includes a viewpoint with a different perspective on the lit-up skyline.

Timur's Tip

We start at 19:00–20:00, when the city lights come on. The Peace Bridge, Narikala with its illumination, and the Shardeni bar district are all at their best in that first hour of darkness. We finish around 22:00–23:00. Bring a light jacket — it gets cool by the river in the evenings, even in summer.

Night Route Hour by Hour

We meet at the Peace Bridge at 20:00 — precisely the moment when the city begins its second life. The domes of Abanotubani reflect in the Kura, and foot traffic in the streets drops to half of the daytime level.

20:00 — Peace Bridge and the Kura Embankment

The Peace Bridge is the perfect starting point. This 150-metre glass pedestrian bridge is covered with 30,000 LED lights that activate at dusk. We spend 15 minutes here: take photos, and I explain the history — the bridge was built in nine months in 2010 to a design by Italian architect Michele de Lucchi. From here we walk along the embankment toward the Abanotubani quarter — roughly 700 metres on foot.

20:20 — Abanotubani: Sulfur Baths at Night

The sulfur bath quarter looks entirely different after dark. Steam from the hot springs (water at +37°C from underground) rises above the domes, creating an almost otherworldly atmosphere. I will show you the oldest baths — Orbeliani, with its 18th-century Persian blue tiles — from the outside, and explain how the underground spring system works. A private bath for two costs ₾80–120 per hour; if you want to visit before or after the tour, I can help arrange it.

20:45 — Old Town: Balconies and Hidden Courtyards

We climb through Shardeni Street — home to some of the best restaurants in Tbilisi, with open terraces above the Kura. We pass without stopping (we are saving those for dinner). The main stop here is the carved wooden balconies in the lanes between Sioni Cathedral and the embankment. At night, when the balcony lanterns burn with warm light, these 19th-century courtyards look like theatrical stage sets. I will show you one courtyard that does not appear in any guidebook — three families and one cat live there.

21:15 — Narikala: A Fortress Under the Stars

The climb to Narikala is the most physically active part of the route. We walk through Rike Park — there is also a cable car (₾5 one way, running until 22:00). On the walls of this 4th-century fortress, the main view of night-time Tbilisi opens up: the entire historic centre spread below, the lights of Mtatsminda to the left, the Peace Bridge shimmering below. We spend about 25 minutes here. On a clear night you can see the mountains.

22:00 — Shardeni and the End of the Tour

We descend to Shardeni Street. Here I offer three options for the finale: first — dinner on a terrace with views of the Kura (Barbarestan or Pirosmani, average bill ₾80–150 per couple, reservations recommended); second — a glass of wine at one of the Shardeni bars (Vino Underground, Natural Wine Bar); third — we say goodbye and go our separate ways. The tour concludes around 22:00–22:30.

Who This Tour Is For

The night walk is especially popular with couples and with travellers who have already seen Tbilisi during the day. The city transforms completely after sunset — and that transformation deserves a dedicated visit.

The programme adapts to your pace. If you want more time for photos at the Peace Bridge or at Narikala, we stay as long as you need. Groups of up to seven people; children are welcome.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time does the night tour of Tbilisi start?

The standard start time is 20:00 or 21:00. The exact time is agreed at booking, taking into account the season and sunset time. In summer (June–August) we typically start at 21:00 when it gets dark later; in winter we start at 19:30.

Is it a walking tour or does it include transport?

The night tour is entirely on foot: the route passes through the illuminated old town, Narikala, the Peace Bridge and the Kura embankment — approximately 3–4 km over 2.5 hours. The terrain is mostly flat with one uphill section to the fortress.

Is it safe to walk around Tbilisi at night?

Yes. The tourist centre of Tbilisi is well lit and safe after dark. Georgia consistently ranks among the safest countries in Europe. Timur knows every route and monitors the comfort of the group throughout the tour.

Practical Tips

  • Season matters: In summer (June–August) we start at 21:00 — it gets dark later but the air is cooler. In winter we start at 19:30, it gets dark early, but the embankment is almost empty.
  • Footwear: The climb to Narikala involves cobblestones and steps. High heels are out. Trainers or comfortable sandals with a closed toe are ideal.
  • Phone battery: Charge to 100% before the tour. Night photography drains a battery twice as fast as normal. A power bank is a good idea.

What to Bring

  • A light jacket or cardigan — even in summer it drops to +18–20°C by the river at 22:00, and cooler still on Narikala
  • Comfortable shoes for cobblestones and steps
  • Charged phone or power bank
  • ₾10–15 cash — for the cable car (₾5) and water
  • ID for bars and restaurants (some check age)

Practical Information

The tour starts from your hotel in Tbilisi. I pick you up in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle or we meet at an agreed central point. Group size: up to 7 people; children are welcome. Payment in Georgian lari (₾) — cash or bank transfer. Booking via WhatsApp — I reply within 10–15 minutes and send a confirmation with the full route details.

When to Book

In high season (May–October) I recommend booking 3–5 days in advance. In winter and shoulder season — the day before is usually fine. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start. In the event of rain or bad weather, we reschedule at no extra charge.

What Is Included in the Price

Guide service in English, all viewpoints on the route, bottled water. Not included: dinner (average restaurant bill ₾25–40 per person), personal purchases and souvenirs, cable car to Narikala (₾5, optional).

We went to Kazbegi — Timur convinced us the special atmosphere was worth it. Snow by the church, silence. The most romantic day of the trip.
