Tbilisi is one of the most photogenic cities in the Caucasus — but the best light disappears quickly. This tour takes you to the most beautiful locations at golden hour, before the crowds arrive and when the ancient stonework glows amber in the morning sun.
Tour Route
06:00-07:00 — Abanotubani Sulphur Bath District
We begin in Abanotubani before sunrise. The dome-shaped bath houses, the Metekhi Church on its cliff across the river, and the medieval walls of the old town create an extraordinary skyline in the early morning light. This is one of the most photographed spots in Tbilisi — and for good reason.
07:00-08:00 — Kote Afkhazi Street Old Town Balconies
The wooden balconies of old Tbilisi are unique in the Caucasus — ornately carved, painted in faded colours, draped with grapevines and laundry. At street level in the morning, with locals heading to work and bread sellers setting up their stalls, this is Tbilisi at its most authentic. We walk slowly and I'll point out the best angles and compositions.
08:00-09:00 — Narikala Fortress and City Views
The walk up to Narikala — or the cable car if you prefer — gives panoramic views over the entire old city. In morning light with low mist in the river valley, the view is spectacular. The fortress ruins and the Mother of Georgia statue make compelling foreground subjects.
09:00-10:00 — Bridge of Peace
The glass-and-steel Bridge of Peace, designed by Italian architect Michele De Lucchi, connects the old town to Rike Park. In morning light with the church tower reflected in the Mtkvari River below, it offers a beautiful contrast between ancient and contemporary Tbilisi.
Timur's Tip
Bring a wide-angle lens if you have one — the narrow streets of old Tbilisi reward wide compositions. The best balcony photography is from street level, not above. And book in advance: golden hour in Tbilisi is short and the tour fills up quickly.
