We start near the Metekhi Bridge — with the legend of Tbilisi's founding. Timur tells the story of King Vakhtang Gorgasali's hunt in an interactive way: children "help" the king find a wounded pheasant and a hot spring. The legend dates to the 5th century and becomes a real adventure when told this way.

The climb to Narikala Fortress comes with a mission: find the tallest tower and count the arrow slits. For older children — the story of Persian warriors and Georgian defenders. For younger ones — the tale of a dragon that lived in the fortress. Both versions keep kids fully engaged.

The cable car ride is a non-negotiable highlight. Ascending over the city gives children a bird's-eye view of Tbilisi's colorful rooftops and the Kura River winding below. At the top, the fortress ruins invite imagination — who lived here, who attacked it, where are the secret passages?

A Full Day Schedule for Children in Tbilisi

The route is designed for 3–4 hours of active time with breaks. We start at 10:00 or 16:30 — the best times to avoid heat and tourist crowds.

• 10:00 — Rike Park on the Kura River. Playgrounds, swings, view of Narikala Fortress from below. I tell the legend: King Vakhtang Gorgasali found a hot spring in the 5th century when a wounded pheasant fell into it and healed. Children listen and immediately ask about the pheasant.
• 10:20 — Bridge of Peace (pedestrian). Glass bridge 150 m long with an ornate canopy. Children love looking through the glass floor down at the river. I explain that the bridge was designed by an Italian architect and opened in 2010.
• 10:35 — Cable car. Ride from Rike Park up to Narikala Fortress. Elevation gain 80 m, time in the air — 3 minutes. The gondola fits 6–8 people. Suitable from age 3; I hold hands during boarding. Price: ₾1 each way (card accepted).
• 10:45 — Narikala Fortress (4th–17th century). Children's mission: find the tallest tower, count the arrow slits, locate where the cannons stood. For children 8+: I tell about the Mongol invasion of 1236 and how residents hid in underground passages. For younger children: the story of a dragon caught by a Georgian knight.
• 11:30 — Walk down through Abanotubani. The sulfur bath domes — "like mushrooms," children say. I explain that the water at +37°C flows from the ground naturally, without any heating. Photo stop at the colorful domes.
• 12:00 — Churchkhela and ice cream. In the lanes of the Old Town we pick out churchkhela — Georgian sweets made of nuts in grape juice, ₾2–3 each. Ice cream is on the guide — a firm tour tradition.
• 12:30–13:00 — Return to the starting point or lunch at a child-friendly cafe nearby.

• In summer, choose the 10:00 tour — by 13:00 it's +32–35°C and children tire quickly. Or take the evening option starting at 17:00 — the sunset from Narikala Hill is more beautiful than in daylight.
• The cable car occasionally stops for maintenance — check the day before. If it's closed, we walk up the cobblestones (10 min) — the view is equally impressive.
• Bring ₾20–30 in cash — children will definitely want to buy magnets, churchkhela, and small Georgian warrior figurines in the lanes of the Old Town.
