The road from Tbilisi to the coast is 315 kilometres across the whole of Georgia: from the capital's hills through the Kura valley to the subtropics of Adjara. A Tbilisi — Batumi transfer with a private driver spares you changes with suitcases, timetables and stuffy minibuses: you are picked up right at your hotel, and on the way you can stop in Gori, Uplistsikhe or Borjomi — at no extra cost for the transfer itself, only entrance tickets.
Tbilisi — Batumi Transfer: from ₾280 per person, ₾650 per car
315 km to the sea in 5 hours, door to door. Or with stops in Gori, Uplistsikhe and Borjomi — and the transfer becomes a tour
How to get from Tbilisi to Batumi
A direct transfer — if you simply want to get to the sea quickly. With stops — if you want to combine the journey with sightseeing on the way. Timur will choose the option that fits your time and energy.
Why a transfer rather than the train or a minibus
The Tbilisi — Batumi train is convenient and inexpensive (from ₾25–30), but it runs strictly on schedule and only from station to station — with suitcases you will need a taxi at both ends. A minibus is cheaper, but cramped and without stops. A transfer picks you up right at your hotel door at a convenient time, drops you at your address in Batumi and lets you stop anywhere along the way. For a family with children or a group of friends it is often cheaper per person than the train and incomparably more comfortable. Planning a full trip with a guide? See the Batumi tour from Tbilisi.
Timur's tip: how to plan the journey
If you are heading to the sea for a holiday, take a morning departure with a stop at Uplistsikhe: you see the cave town by lunchtime and are swimming in Batumi by evening. If speed matters, we leave early and take the direct highway — you are on the coast by lunch. The road is scenic: the last 60 km along the sea are especially beautiful. There is water and chargers in the car, and I provide a child seat free of charge — just tell me the child's age.

Travel time and what is on the way
The distance from Tbilisi to Batumi is about 315 km, and a direct transfer takes roughly 5 hours on a good highway. The first half of the route crosses the plain past Mtskheta and Gori, the second runs through Western Georgia to the coast, and for the last 60 kilometres the car drives along the sea. Precisely because the road passes several famous places, many people turn the journey into a tour: Gori with the Stalin Museum and the cave town of Uplistsikhe are almost on the highway, Borjomi with its mineral water and park is a short detour, and fortress lovers can stop at Rabati in Akhaltsikhe. With stops the trip stretches to 7–8 hours, but you do not spend a separate day on sightseeing.
How much is a Tbilisi — Batumi transfer
The transfer costs from 280 GEL per person; the whole car with a driver is 650 GEL (sedan up to 4 people or minivan up to 7). For a group of 3–4 it is better to book the whole car: 160–220 GEL each. The price includes pickup at your hotel, the drive to your address in Batumi, water and a child seat. Only entrance tickets at stops and lunch are paid separately. The price is fixed when you book — no meter, no luggage or night surcharges. For larger groups we provide a minivan and quote individually. Booking via WhatsApp with a 10% deposit and free cancellation up to 24 hours before.
When is the best time to go
Summer (June–September). Peak season on the coast. Leave early in the morning to avoid the heat on the road and reach the sea in daylight.
Spring and autumn. The ideal time for a journey with stops: comfortable temperatures, green landscapes in spring and golden autumn in the mountains on the way to Borjomi.
Winter. The road to Batumi is open all year. The coast is mild (+10–14 °C), and the journey itself is a good way to see winter Georgia without changes.
Stops along the way: what you can see
The Tbilisi — Batumi road passes several places you would otherwise have to visit separately. We match the set of stops to your pace:
Mtskheta — Georgia's ancient capital 20 minutes from Tbilisi: Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and Jvari Monastery at the confluence of two rivers. A quick but impressive first stop. Gori — Stalin's home town with his house museum, right on the highway. Nearby is Uplistsikhe — a cave town carved into the rock more than 3,000 years ago. Borjomi — a short detour into the mountains: the famous mineral water straight from the spring in the forest park, and a cable car. Rabati in Akhaltsikhe — a restored fortress with a mosque, a church and a synagogue within the same walls, for those who love fortifications.
The full set stretches the journey to 8 hours, so people usually choose 1–2 stops. If the goal is to reach the sea faster, we drive direct in 5 hours with one short stop for coffee and lunch.
Transfer, train or minibus — which to choose
Train. Cheaper (₾25–55 per person), takes about 5–6 hours, but runs on a timetable, from station to station and without stops — you still need a taxi between the stations and your hotel. Minibus. The most budget option (₾30–40), but cramped, without air conditioning in older vehicles and with no guaranteed luggage space. Private transfer. More expensive than the train: from ₾280 per person or ₾650 for the whole car (for a group of 3–4 — 160–220 GEL each), but door to door, on your own schedule, with air conditioning, a child seat and the chance to turn the road into a tour. The choice is simple: if there are two to four of you and you value comfort and time — a transfer; if you travel alone on a budget — the train.
