Armenia at a glance

Armenia is an ancient country with a rich history, mountain monasteries and warm hospitality. It is an easy, affordable destination, with direct flights and simple entry for many nationalities.

Armenia borders Georgia directly, so the two countries are a natural pair: from Tbilisi to Yerevan is just a few hours by train or car.

Visa and entry

Entry rules depend on your nationality. Russian citizens need no visa and may stay up to 180 days. Citizens of many countries also enjoy visa-free access or a simple e-visa.

When to go

The best time for Armenia is May to October, when it is warm and the mountain roads to the monasteries are open. Summer in Yerevan is hot (+30–35°C), but cooler in the mountains and at Lake Sevan.

Autumn is especially good: the harvest, wineries and mild weather. In winter the Tsaghkadzor ski resort operates.

What to see in Armenia

Yerevan

One of the world’s oldest capitals: Republic Square, the Cascade, the Matenadaran and views of Mount Ararat.

Garni & Geghard

The pagan temple of Garni and the cave monastery of Geghard (UNESCO) — a classic day trip from Yerevan.

Lake Sevan

A high-altitude lake with the Sevanavank monastery and beaches — the main summer getaway for Armenians.

Tatev

A 9th-century monastery and the world’s longest reversible cable car, the Wings of Tatev.
