Cyprus at a glance

Cyprus is a Mediterranean island with a long beach season, clean sea and rich history. Travellers come for warm water, cosy resorts and a relaxed family holiday, mixing the beach with ancient sites.

The island is divided into a southern (Republic of Cyprus, EU) and a northern part. Most tourists stay in the south — Ayia Napa, Protaras, Limassol and Paphos.

Visa and entry

For the south of Cyprus most visitors need a visa — typically a national Cyprus visa or a valid Schengen. Requirements change, so check the current rules for your nationality before booking.

When to go

Cyprus has one of the longest beach seasons in the Mediterranean: from May to October the water warms to +24–27°C. Peak heat is July–August.

Spring and autumn are great for sightseeing and hiking in the Troodos mountains: warm but without the scorching heat, and fewer tourists.

What to see in Cyprus

Ayia Napa & Protaras

Resorts with the island’s best sandy beaches, clear water and lively nightlife.

Paphos

A UNESCO-listed town: ancient mosaics, the Tombs of the Kings and the legendary Rock of Aphrodite.

Limassol

A large resort and port with a promenade, a medieval castle and wineries nearby.

Troodos mountains

Cool pine mountains with monasteries, waterfalls and villages — a contrast to the beach.
