Turkey — a travel guide for 2026
Turkey at a glance
Turkey is one of the most accessible holiday destinations, with direct flights from dozens of cities, easy entry for many nationalities and infrastructure built around travellers. The country straddles Europe and Asia, is washed by four seas and offers wildly different trips — from the beaches of Antalya to the ancient ruins of Ephesus and the otherworldly landscapes of Cappadocia.
The main gateway is Istanbul, one of the most atmospheric megacities in the world. From here it is easy to fly on: Mediterranean resorts are about an hour away, and Tbilisi just a couple of hours, so Turkey is often the first leg of a longer regional trip.
Visa and entry
Entry rules depend on your nationality. Russian citizens enjoy visa-free entry by air for up to 60 days. Travellers from many other countries also benefit from visa-free access or an easy e-visa — check the rules for your passport before booking.
- Passport valid for the duration of your stay
- Russian citizens: visa-free, up to 60 days by air
- Other nationalities: e-visa or visa-free, check in advance
When to go
For a beach holiday on the Mediterranean (Antalya, Kemer, Side) the best season runs from May to October, when the water reaches +24–27°C. The peak heat and prices fall in July and August.
For sightseeing in Istanbul, Cappadocia and the Aegean coast, spring (April–May) and autumn (September–October) are more comfortable: no scorching heat and fewer crowds. Winter brings ski resorts such as Uludag and Erciyes.
What to see in Turkey
Istanbul
Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Grand Bazaar and a Bosphorus cruise. Allow at least two to three days for the historic centre.
Cappadocia
Valleys of fairy chimneys, cave cities and the famous sunrise hot-air balloon flights. Best in April–June and September–October.
Antalya coast
Kemer, Side, Belek and Antalya itself — a concentration of all-inclusive resorts, water parks and sandy beaches, ideal for families.
Pamukkale & Ephesus
The white travertine terraces of Pamukkale and the grand ancient city of Ephesus on the Aegean coast — a must for history lovers.
Trip budget
Approximate 2026 prices for two people:
- Independent (flights, 3–4* hotel, meals) — from €800 per week off-season
- All-inclusive package — €1,500–2,000 in high season
- City break in Istanbul (3–4 days) — noticeably cheaper than the beach
Turkey wins on the balance of price and service, especially if you book early and avoid August.
Heading to Turkey? Add Georgia
Istanbul and Tbilisi are just a couple of hours apart, and Batumi sits right by the Turkish border. After the sea, many travellers add Georgia for its mountains, wine and Tbilisi. We will plan the Georgian part of your route.
