Winter Tours in Georgia 2026–27

Winter in Georgia runs from late December to March: the Caucasus is under snow, Tbilisi is calm and cheaper than in summer, and the mountains are two hours from the city. Below are the winter routes we actually run — one-day trips for a quick taste and 2-day tours with an overnight stay when you want a full day on the slopes or in the pools.
Winter tours and day trips
Gudauri + Kazbegi, 2 days
A full day on the Gudauri slopes, a night in the mountains, then the Cross Pass and snowy Gergeti. Hotel with breakfast included, plan B if the pass closes.
Borjomi + Bakuriani, 2 days
Open-air warm sulfur pools in Borjomi, a night in Borjomi, then sledding and gentle slopes in Bakuriani. No high passes.
Gudauri day trip from Tbilisi
Georgia's main ski resort in one day: Ananuri on the way, 4–5 hours on the slopes or a gondola ride, back in Tbilisi in the evening.
New Year in Georgia
New Year's Eve in Tbilisi, then winter Kazbegi and Kakheti with a local guide. Book 4–8 weeks ahead: the holidays sell out fast.
Borjomi day trip from Tbilisi
Borjomi Central Park, the mineral spring you can drink from for free, the cable car and warm pools — back in Tbilisi the same evening.
Old Tbilisi and sulfur baths
Narikala fortress, the Bridge of Peace and Abanotubani, the domed bath quarter over hot springs. Best in winter, when the warm water feels like magic.
Gudauri — the main ski resort of the Caucasus
About 120 km from Tbilisi, 2,196–3,007 m above sea level, runs for every level.
Runs for every level
Gentle blue runs near the village for beginners, red and black ones higher up with views of the Main Caucasus Range. A day ski pass cost about ₾70 in 2025/26; rental and instructors are available on the spot.
Season and snow
The lifts usually open in late December (December 27 in 2025/26) and run until early April. February and March are the safest bet for snow and sunshine.
Bakuriani — the family option
Georgia's second resort, near Borjomi at 1,700 m: gentler slopes, pine forest and sledding. Easy to combine with the warm pools of Borjomi on a 2-day trip.
Day trip or overnight?
The drive takes about 2.5 hours each way, so a day trip leaves 4–5 hours on the slopes. With a night in Gudauri you ski a full day and see Kazbegi the next morning.
Winter Tbilisi — quiet and atmospheric
December to February is the best time to see the city without crowds.
Abanotubani sulfur baths
The domed bath quarter sits on hot sulfur springs around +37 °C. A private room after a cold walk is the best winter experience in the city.
No tourist crowds
Old Town restaurants are full of locals, Narikala has no tour buses, and photos come out without strangers in the frame.
New Year and Christmas
Tbilisi is decorated from mid-December. Georgian Orthodox Christmas (Shoba) is on January 7, with the Alilo processions through the streets.
Lower prices
Hotels are much cheaper than in summer. The exception is the New Year peak, roughly December 27 to January 3 — book early.
